Governor Mike Pence’s 2014 legislative agenda is full of proposals that would increase spending while curtailing state tax revenues…heading into a non-budget session of the General Assembly. As Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Brandon Smith reports, that agenda includes a phase-out of the state’s business personal property tax.
Governor Pence’s agenda also includes a call for funding pre-kindergarten education for low-income families. His proposal would provide a school voucher to families who make up to 185 percent of the federal poverty level, but does not have specifics on whether the program will be public or private. Legislative leaders from both parties have cited early childhood education as a major focus of the upcoming session. But they say cost will likely create the most debate.
