Running a school corporation is expensive — that’s why Governor Mitch Daniels has touted school consolidation as a way for small, rural districts to save money during tough economic times. In 2011, he backed a bill that would have forced the consolidation of Indiana’s smallest districts. But if there’s such a thing as a school district that’s too small, is there also such a thing as a district that’s too big? That’s how some residents of Anderson feel about their local school corporation. As StateImpact Indiana’s Elle Moxley reports, they’ve asked the legislature for legal backing to break away from their school district and start their own.
