StateImpact Indiana: IREAD-3 Retakes

The clock is ticking for 11,000 Indiana third graders who did not pass the IREAD-3 exam last March.  Their teachers will work into the summer to help them pass a retake of the reading test by late July.  Students who don’t pass risk being held back from fourth grade.  Indiana education officials say this pushes districts to make tough choices about struggling students.  But as StateImpact Indiana’s Kyle Stokes reports, some parents and school districts feel as though the state’s new reading policy has taken that choice out of their hands.
